With this in mind residence of the Wasatch Front can expect to under go another 5-year I-15 reconstruction in about 10-15 years unless decisions are made now to utilize alternative transportation.
• The 2000 average building cost per parking structure stall has increased to $12,000.00- $15,000.00. This cost increase is directly related to any increase in monthly parking.
• Vehicle miles driven by Americans in increasing by 2% a year, which is three times as fast as the country’s population.
• The population of Utah is growing at twice the national average, and the population along the Wasatch Front is predicted to increase from 1.6 million to 2.7 million.
• The average American spends $6000 per year to buy, maintain, insure, and regulate their automobile. In addition, they pay $3000 to $4000 a year for infrastructure, policing, parking, and other related services.
• The average cost of a minor non-injury “fender bender” with an insurance deductible of $500 is $3200 out of pocket with lost time, car rental, premium increases, deductible, etc.
• Gas taxes and vehicle registration fees only cover 23% of the money allocated to utah’s Cenntenial Highway Fund. The remaining 77% is subsidized by other forms of tax.
